Canon scanner not working with M1 mac

So I got my M1 Mini late November and it his taken me until today to notice this, being quiet telling of how often I use my scanner

I have a Canon MF635Cx printer/scanner and I just noted that I can not use the scanner from within MacOS on the M1 (or if it is a BigSur issue). It worked with my Intel Mac on Catalina.

Now I have a workaround, by scanning to a USB drive but it would be nice to be able to scan directly to the computer.

Printing is no problems, probably why I've not noticed this problem before now.

Anyone else had this issue and found a fix?

WTF was it that simple

I had not tried that, I've always gone through "Printers and Scanners" and chosen the tab "Scanner" and that way does not work now.

But image capture worked so problem solved.

Just wanted to say for reference that I'm having the same issue with an HP M277dw LaserJet (M1 Mac mini). Pushing the scanner button via the system preferences doesn't do anything. Works perfectly on my Intel MBP though.
