Hi

I was recently given a working Canon CanoScan N 650U. I cant seem to find the softwear online to get it working. I have checked the Canon website for the softwear and have been unsucessful in finding anything useful. I am currently on a Macbook Pro running 10.4.5. The only softwear that I can find requires clasic and I dont have it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

thx- Alex

Glad to hear that you picked up a free scanner!

I happen to have the same model, and after bugging Canon for a month or two, they finally released the scanner driver for Mac OS X. You can get it from http://www.usa.canon.com/html/canonindex.html

Unfortunately, none of their actual software programs are OS X compatible...which means you'll need a separate program (Photoshop Elements, GraphicConverter, etc.) to use it. I recommend GraphicConverter, which is shareware and is available at http://www.lemkesoft.com

What you'll need to do is install GraphicConverter and then install the Canon scanner driver. I'm a bit fuzzy on the details at the moment, but once that is done, you need to choose File->Acquire->TWAIN acquire in GraphicConverter, and I believe it will come up with the Canon Scanner utility, which will allow you to scan/modify settings.

I hope this helps...my scanner is actually back in SC, so I can't actually tinker around to give you more details!

Good luck!

I have the same scanner. For years, I've been using the CanoScan software that came with it -- under Classic. But I will also attest that the plugin for Photoshop and GraphicConverter works in OSX.

Don't know if it works, but the feedback is very impressive. Good luck.

I use the same scanner, with the OS X driver. I use it through Photoshop, but it was a real pain to setup everything the first time. I remember having some trouble.

The CanoScan Toolbox X doesn't work for this scanner?

I have a CanoScan N670U and it works just fine in OS X.

If you're referring to the freestanding software, no it doesn't. Unfortunately, Canon never updated it to work with the N650U, to the annoyance of many.
