Can't access local server since upgrade

So today was the day we uploaded all our macs to El Capitan: 2 laptops, 2 minis, and our server (with Server app already updated yesterday). Since the update everything is working fine except none of the machines can access the server anymore. They CAN access each other (both file sharing and screen sharing), but the macbook pros don't even see the server and the minis can see it in the sidebar but clicking on it results in a "connection failed" message after attempting to connect for half a minute (also can no longer connect to the server's iTunes library). Nothing was changed on the server settings (in fact, the upgrades were done from cached upgrade files from the cache server) and no network settings were altered in any way.

Thoughts?

Update: Still not working. All computers can still see each other, server can see other computers, no computer can see server. Time Machine, Screen sharing, iTunes and Plex servers also not working. Can directly log into the hard drives using the IP address but only connects directly to the drives, still not logging into the server or recognizing the machine itself...

Well, two weeks later and still nothing. Reinstalled El Capitan and Server and deleted all third party software and still won't connect. Weirdly, Plex server will connect when I connect the server to the network via wifi, but not ethernet. Still no idea what to do.

Well I know what I would do namely go back to the OS that worked and call it a day on the upgrade to obviously broken buggy OS that does not. The way I go about this idea is always have spare partition that I can clone my install to boot it to confirm it works then upgrade there run for few days to confirm no problems then clone that back to what is my main install partition, perhaps you might consider that method in future attempts.

Oh no, we have backups. We have a thorough backup system dating back to the late 90s, actually. We have a server online, I just am trying to get El Capitan to function properly. It's quickly becoming the Windows Vista of OSX.

Go back on all and upgrade one at a time...then see at what stage with what machine on what OS doesn't work. You changed far too much at once to stand much chance troubleshooting TBH. Rollouts are called rollouts for a reason, otherwise they would be called "Sudden Death on All Machines and Pray" ;-)

Glad you have backups, use them then go forward...slowly

BTW I have Lion server Mini talking to three EC Macs with no issues...if you want a shortcut (potentially), regress the server first.
