Just restored from iphone 8 backup to my iphone x. Both were on ios 11.2 beta profile. But every time I try to open the messages app it closes immediately. Anyone have this issue?

Got my wife the X today and when I restored from back up the messages app won’t work. It launches and crashes instantaneously. I’ve restarted, rebooted, resetted and even tried to do the restore a few times and get the same result every time. Has anyone else experienced this? Would love to get this resolved ASAP. Thanks!

Same bug, and it’s really frustrating.

I “reset all settings” and that fixed it, but obviously requires setting a whole bunch of things back up again, so has its own frustrations.

This needs a fix from apple

Yep, me too. Restored using iCloud backup.

Doing a “reset all settings” worked for me, but it’s annoying as you have to set lots of stuff up again

I’m having the exact same problem! No clue what to try next.

Okay I figured this out when I woke up this morning...... I was able to respond to message when it showed up in notifications and 3d touch to reply there....I wanted to share a deal through the slickdeals app with my dad and wanted to share through Message app. So i clicked that option and bam Messages didnt crash for that message it stayed opened. Once that was done went right into messages and no more crashing. I force closed app and still works. I am still on a restore from icloud no fresh install. hope it helps you all too

Alas, that didn't work for me.

Hmm thought it would work for more people.....maybe the Slick deals.net app has something to do ha.

Well, I have tried erasing and then setting up the iPhone X as new and it works as expected. I had previously restored from an encrypted iTunes Backup. I have been chatting with an Apple Support representative and they suggest trying an unencrypted iTunes backup or an iCloud backup. I am in the process of attempting both but it will take some time. I will report back later today. There is obviously some kind of obscure bug with the iPhone X, iOS 11.x, and restoring from a backup.

Update: Neither encrypted or unencrypted backups from iTunes worked. In both cases, iMessage crashes immediately. I will try to update from iCloud next but it will take many many hours.

While waiting for my previous iPhone to backup to iCloud, I attempted to "Reset All Settings" on the iPhone X (which was freshly restored). After it rebooted, I could open iMessage. However, it was not receiving or sending messages. Going into Settings/Messages shows that iMessage it was now stuck at "Waiting for activation..." I turned it off and then back on again and now I seem to be in business! It's only been a few minutes but it appears that all is in order as expected.

The worked for me also. ‘Reset all settings’
Not content.

You’ll keep your apps, their data, and half your other settings. But you will have just reset some critical stuff that fixes iMessage. There will be stuff to reconfigure but its not bad.

I’ve gotten messages to work this way as well but don’t really want to go through redoing all the settings. Can’t remember how have the stuff was set up now.

I had problem also. I reset all settings which fixed. Before that I tried deleting all messages in settings which didn’t do anything. I lost all my history by doing this but not a big deal (I could have done another restore but I have nothing important in messages)

Thanks for the fix.
Reset settings worked for me. Not reset content, just settings.
Annoying but least I can finally text.
