So i am trying to add a website to the hosts file that I want to block on system level and I have added both the ipv4 & ipv6 addresses of this site as you can see from my screenshot but even then, I can easily surf into the site on Safari. How is this possible?

On Chrome, the site is blocked and I also tried it on a another browser with same result. It's only Safari that have this issue.

Any idea why?

Probably you had already visited this site from safari and it cached the DNS. You will need to clear the DNS cache.

Blocking sites using the Hosts file is one way to block a site but not alway effective as you have found out. However, it may be easier to use a DNS service that provides a way to block sites. Try using "OpenDNS".

Yeah I guess that's another way to do it but I prefer not change my DNS because I have specific DNS from VPN provider that I need to use in router. Unfortunately there is no website block feature in my router so I need to find a way to solve this with the hosts file.
