I've been used to changing the icons of stuff in the get info panel in Finder. Suddenly, one single app, Avid Pro Tools, won't let me do that anymore. Pretty sure it started with the latest update. This is AFAICS the only file/app that will not let me do it.

Seems like Avid removed this option. Anyone know a way to work around this?

I tried making an alias of the app, changing the icon (went fine), but then, when I dragged the alias to the dock, which is where I'd like to have the custom icon, it shows up with the original app icon.

What I'd like - and what I don't like:

Boot into Safe mode. Safe mode clears a bunch of different caches. Leave your Mac in Safe mode for 5-10 min then restart. See if that resolves the icon display issue.

Thanks, Bigwaff. I haven't tried your suggestion. Bit of a long shot TBH.

Instead I found a suggestion out there about an app called IconChamp. I tried it. No luck. There was a suggestion to disable SIP. With SIP disabled, I could change the Pro Tools app icon w/IconChamp, and it now shows up everywhere with the beautiful blue and yellow graphic from two decades ago.

I have yet to see if it will revert to the other icon if/when I enable SIP. I read somewhere that would happen at protools launch with SIP enabled. We'll see.

I also don't know if it was only disabling SIP that made the difference, and if the IconChamp app was needed at all. I'll find out.
