I'm running PB1, which has been surprisingly stable so far. I wanted to see if the new smooth Siri voice was only for the American Female accent, but when I went to change my Siri voice I noticed two things: first, there are no Male and Female options, just the regional accents (American, British, etc.). Second, I tapped British to see if that much was working, and now it's stuck on British. If I tap American again, it seems to confirm the choice, but when I go back to the previous menu, it shows British, and Siri is stuck with that accent.

Anyone else running into this? I put together a bug report but the Feedback app itself is crashing. D'oh.

I was seeing the same thing. I’m actually in the middle of restoring from an earlier backup in the hopes that this can be fixed but that was before I saw this post, so clearly it’s a bug and I’m not a one off.

I am not able to even select a male/female voice for any of them except Indian. Lame. I submitted a feedback request already.

For what it’s worth, I got around it by temporarily changing the language (not just the accent), then switching back to (for me) US English, and that reset it to American Female.

Unfortunately I don’t have that option either.

is the siri voice any different? i thought they where updating it

Yeah, I'm hearing the new voice with the American Female setting. Interestingly, I get the new voice from my HomePods now, too, though they're not running beta software. Also, I notice that sometimes the "announce messages over headphones" feature uses a much older, rougher Siri voice (sounds worse than the iOS 12 Siri).

Unfortunately, that didn’t work for me. So is this going to keep trying to download with no way of stopping it? I’ve turned my phone off several times now. And each time I restart, it automatically goes back to attempting to download.

Just for the heck of it, I tried asking General Apple support. I was hoping it may be a server issue like back in December. However, as soon as I told them the iOS version (they asked), I was shut down for support.

This is getting annoying. It’s probably eating up battery, no?

Oddly my iPad Pro is fine and can download and select the genders on all the accents. I might end up resetting settings only to see if that will fix it.

8097C7E1-D998-420D-998F-F6438193D4E0.png It’s driving me crazy! I’d revert back to my last save, but I have too many things that I’ve done over the past two days. Can’t lose it.

Digging around, I noticed that when checking Siri in Cloud, the icon is corrupted/wrong. Maybe that has to do with something. I tried turning it off and deleting. Didn’t work. Turned it back on. Didn’t work. I’ve sent all of this to Apple.

Update on my end:

Resetting settings did not work.
Erasing my device and restoring from an iOS12 itunes encrypted backup fixed the issue.

Normal Siri was fine but under apple carplay it was a robotic voice that was piss poor. I submitted feedback. I'll check if this fixes my issue.

I can’t believe it still says downloading. I’m hoping the next beta will fix this.

Hitting erase settings and restoring from my iTunes Backup fixed this issue. My iPad didn't have this issue with the iOS13 in-place upgrade but my iPhone Xs did.

Interestingly enough, its a beta, so expect to wipe and wipe. :)

I was having a similar issue - the siri voice wasn't downloading on my iphone xs going through options - SIRI - i got around it by downloading it in Accessibility == options -accessibility - spoken content - voices. BTW - there are some crazy voices there.

I tried that on mine and there was no luck. :(

so strange - and it keeps flip flopping between what i think is the new voice and the old one - when it announces text messages through my airpods it uses an extremely old voice that is hard to understand.
