Cant choose country or send messages with imessage on ipod??

So i just updated to iOS5 but sadly iMessage sucks! it can only send emails nothing else when i type my phone number or anyone else's it says its not register btw im in egypt and it didn't ask me for country.And in the apple website it says you can send unlimited text messages using wi-fi or 3g on all iOS5 devices

That only works if the other person has an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 5.

wait i have a blackberry so it wont work DARN IT NO ONE HAS APPLE PRODUCTS IN EGYPT :c well on the bright side email works and why cant i choose countys>

1) you need an Apple ID
2) it can not send SMS messages, only iMessages to other iOS5 devices
3) you must have internet access and be able to make a connection to Apple's iMessage servers.
