Can't clear calendar events from Not~ Centre

I can't clear calendar events from the notification centre, after I press the 'x' then hit clears, they're still there.

Do they ever disappear, or am I going to have calendar events there forever even the day after?

Strange. They certainly should disappear. At least mine do. I checked the available settings for the Calendar.app under Settings>Notifications and didn't see anything about displaying past events so I'm not sure what your issue is. Have you tried completely closing out the Calendar.app? How about turning the phone off and then back on? Or doing a reset? I don't know if any of these things will help but I'd probably try them in the order I asked them.

Tried everything but a reset, I really want to leave that as a last resort.

The only way I can remove them from notification centre is to remove them from calendar (which is syncing with ical on my mac).

Clear doesnt remove the event, it clears the reminder alert. You can tell that's happened because the event goes from regular font to italic. The event will disappear from notification after its time has passed (or next day if it's an all-day event).
