If you're trying to connect the iPad to a computer with USB-A only ports (computer host, iPad client), you're looking at the wrong adapters.

You'll need a cable like this.

Or an adapter like this to use with the USB-C to USB-C cable that came with the iPad.

P.S.
Apparently, the Apple charging cable is USB 2.0 only so the first option is better (USB-C to USB3 cable).

I connected mine earlier on today to my windows 10 machine, it’s where I store my music. I had a USB 3.0 to USB-C cable from an external hard drive I had recently bought. Worked perfectly. Looks like that cable above. Even a poor quality USB 2.0 to USB-C should work, although transfer speeds will be slower. iTunes detected it with no problems. There was a recent update to iTunes so make sure you have the latest version installed.

Yeah iTunes didn’t open automatically like normal, had to open manually. I’ll check and update version.
