Can't copy one word in SMS?

I noticed that I can't copy single words in a text message, instead I have to copy the entire message. This was especially annoying when my friend sent me a picture and I tried copying and pasting the name/password into the AT&T website to view. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

I realize this won't even be an issue later this summer when we have MMS and don't have to view that website, but it seems a little bizarre that copying has to be all or nothing for SMS.

That seems to be the way, unfortunately, you copy all or none.

The workaround I've seen mentioned elsewhere is pasting the whole message into a new note, and then selecting the bits you want from that.
