Hey guys, so I got both the 12 and the 11 and I’m super OCD when it comes to clear white displays with even backlighting. Which display do you think is better based on the pics? In person the 12 inch seems to have a colder white, but does the 11 inch look yellow to y’all? The photos are with and without True Tone for each.

I agree that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro looks whiter than the 11-inch iPad Pro. If you really do want colder whites, keep the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Would anyone actually be bothered by the less colder white 11inch?

What matters is what looks best to your eyes. There is no positively 100% objective choice. Although I have an iPad mini, for most things I prefer a slightly warmer tone and regularly use the Accessibility > Reduce White Point setting (in my Control Center). Other people prefer the cooler tones. Time of day can matter too in how you might react to warmer versus cooler. I think it's great you're able to compare them side-by-side.

yea I bought the 12inch from Best Buy and have 45 days to return it. I love the 12 inch but after a few weeks I was thinking it may be too big. Lucky for me target actually has the iPad Pro and magic keyboard in stuck so now I can directly compare instead of always wondering which one is better. Besides my ocd display issues, choosing between the 11 and 12 is tough. It’s hard to leave the 12 gorgeous 12 inch display, it’s just so immersive.

From your pic’s the 12 inch does look at bit “cooler” in terms of cooler temperature. I prefer a cooler temperature...just can’t stand the look of a “yellowish” display. That’s one reason I‘m not a big fan of “True Tone”...all I see is “yellow” when it’s turned on.

In everyday use though...unless the display is ”defective” and clearly has a distinct yellowish tone....you’re probably not going to notice anything if you went with the 11 inch in your picture. The differences between the two aren’t night and day...instead, very subtle.

Between these two displays...I’d just go with the size that works best for you.

Very true. So far I’m leaning towards the 12, and not because of the slightly cooler display...though it does make it a bit more appealing, just knowing that it’s cooler even though I wouldn’t notice anything if I didn’t have them side by side.

I honestly can't tell that there are differences. Go with the size you prefer or for your use case.

You answered yourself. You wouldn’t notice it if they weren’t side by side. So maybe decide based on something you would notice?

I will tell you a little secret - and it may piss some people off, but it’s really meant to help you: there is a group of people that look at screens by putting white or gray backgrounds and looking at them from different angles and checking for uniformity, bleeding, temperature.... you know, the screen enthusiasts. Well, the well kept secret - and this is true, by the way - the secret is....

....they are all crazy.

Enjoy your device!

Both of the screens looks good to me. As has been said, you only know that there are differences as they are side by side. I used to really want a very white screen with my earlier iPhones and iPads, but now I use True Tone anyway. I suggest that you pick the iPad for the one that you like the size of. You got two different sizes, not two iPads of the same size to compare the screens. As both of the screens look good, I’d go with the size of iPad that you want.
It seemed to me that you wished that the 11” was the one with the whiter screen and I got the impression that you wanted the 11”.

You know I was set on the 11 being better.....but after using both all day today. I’m gonna have to keep the 12 and return the 11, this isn’t because of the screen temperature since the 11 is actually just fine. But the 12inch is just so glorious when you look at anything. And I actually do work on my tablet and it’s much easier on the 12. I use tablet mode extensively but it’s usually resting on my legs so the bigger screen doesn’t bother me and honestly using the 11inch is still heavy with one hand. So if they’re both heavy, might as well just use the 12.

There is an objective standard, actually, and it’s how calibration of the display is done at the factory. Past that point, you could measure each display with a colorimeter to determine which display is better calibrated. Of course, you probably aren’t going to do that, so we’re back to picking which one looks best to you.
