Hi,
I have the mbp m1 today but only with 256GB of stiorage and I badly need more so my plan is to sell it and buy a new one with 16GB/1TB.
But I can’t decide if I should wait for the new ones or not.
Will the price increase?

regarding RAM it should bee fun to have 32 or 64gb but I can’t justify the prices bump for it my guess is that it would bee 400 usd price bump for 32gb

What should I do wait or not?

it is supposed to be the higher tier, so absolutely expect the price to be higher than the current M1.
My expectation is that RAM will be at least up to 32GB, maybe 64
And actual release date AND availability I everyone's guess, could be 2 months out for you to get it, maybe less, maybe more ...
You COULD get an external SSD to get past your 256 ...

I waited and waited for the m1 iMac, and then it turned out to be not at all what I wanted, and instead I bought a 16/512 Mini and an LG 5K 27".

If I was waiting for an Apple Silicon 27" (or 32") I'd still be waiting. And there's no indication that the bigger iMac will be here this year. Nor the next-iteration Mini, for that matter.

Nobody Knows.

The Mini is doing everything I need and does it far better than its predecessor, my late 2015 iMac.

I say, buy the 16GB m1 Mini now, if you need the extra memory. It will not be hard to sell an m1 Mini after the m1x/m2 Mini is introduced.

what I’m thinking is that we don’t know if or when new MacBook pros are getting released and not to which price. I need 1tb storage on my mbp and my current only has 256GB I did only buy it because 1tb was out of stock in my country for 1 year ago.

I might just sell it and buy the 1tb version and then see what’s happen. My second computer might bee Mac mini with 64gb ram or similar.

but I can’t still decide what to do. I might wait until the end of October and if nothing new is announced I’ll just buy it

You could do with a external USB4/Thunderbolt SSD, like Samsung T7 or X5 or a separate case and NVME drive of your choice.

You take e. g. a 2TB one and when you have the right M1 machine to buy with your storage tier, you can use it for backup purposes.

The new MacBook Pros coming in several more weeks WILL NOT be anything like the m1 MBP you have now.

They'll be "re-designed" 14" and 16" units, and YES, they will cost more.
I would expect the entry level pricing for the 14" to be around $1,600 minimum.
I'd like to see "less", but we'll have to wait and see.

IF the MBP 13" you have now isn't "enough", and you want something similar with more RAM and SSD, then sell what you have and perhaps consider an Apple-refurbished m1 MPB 13" (or a new one).

If you'd like to save money, why not get an EXTERNAL USB3 SSD for the extra storage space?
MUCH cheaper to do it that way.

I have decided to wait, I need 32GB of ram so I’m hoping they will release something with that and the m1

Howdy 5425642,

You have asked the one of the most common questions around technology. Buy now, or wait? You will get responses that favor both options from different folks, but I say, the only person that can answer that question is you (which you did :) ). The logic is that if you wait, you will ALWAYS find something bigger, better, or perhaps even cheaper. Technology is ever evolving, and something new is always around the corner. At some point, you have to bite the proverbial bullet and buy, and once you do that STOP LOOKING ?. You should buy what you need/want when you need it. If you need the 32 GBs of RAM, your only choices right now are to either wait, get an Intel based system, or go with a non-Apple device. This makes your decision infinitely easier. However, once the system becomes available, get what you need, and be happy. Apple tends to release things in pseudo-predictable cycles, but a quick check of the MacRumors Buyers guide shows that somethings have longer gaps that others. I also recommend that when you buy, invest in AppleCare at the same time (I always factor in the cost of AppleCare when budgeting for an Apple computer), as then you know that you will get a minimum of 3 years of support from Apple, even if the day/week/month/year after you purchased they replace it with "one more thing." :).

I can’t see Apple releasing an M1 Mac with more than 16GB RAM. Ever.
The new higher tier Macs yes, but they will be more expensive.

So it might come down to your budget, Apple will charge £400 for an additional 16GB RAM as usual. This will be on top of the extra cost for the new better display and redesign.

An M1 13” MBP with 16GB/1TB is £1899. I expect that price to be the same after the new Macs launch.
I expect a 14” MBP with 32GB/1TB to cost £2,299 minimum, probably £2,499 or more as £200 extra for a 1” bigger and much better screen, the redesign and more ports etc. would be a great buy. Imho.

Got 3000 euro to put on it.

If you can wait for a few weeks, you should have more information then when they finally release the higher end MBPs.

the M1 MBP is equivalent to the old 2-point 13" Pro that was the low end of that line. They kept the case, added the M1 and the prices were about the same as before.

When is expected next are replacements for the higher end 13" MBP and the 16" MBP. They will likely get a new version of the M-series chip with higher base and max RAM, more ports, more external monitors, etc. They are rumored to get new mini-LED screens. For the iPad Pros, the mini-LED didn't add a large premium, so there may not be a big jump for these, but they are expected to get new designs and the 13" is supposed to bump up to 14" so Apple may take this as an opportunity to move them up some.

You could go in and configure what you want from the current lineup. Then take that price and start playing with whether you like it 10% more expensive, 20%? See what your pain point is. Then you can start negotiating with yourself for various features and likely prices.

We won't know for sure. Apple has not jacked up their prices recently even those people expected them to. it's not clear yet if that trend will continue or if they will go for it at some point.
