I created a bootable USB with Mavericks on it (using DiskMaker), did the whole restart-hold Option key to boot from USB thing and the system would just panic. Then I'd restart and go back to Yosemite.

Tried a few more times, and it always gets stuck and panics.

How do I get back to Mavericks?

Thanks!

Hmm, so any installer should work; you don't need a system-specific one.

You may want to try using the createinstallmedia tool instead of DiskMaker. I'm not sure that it'll make any difference, but it couldn't hurt.
