Cant downgrade iCloud 50GB to free

The title explains everything

My iCloud account has 3.6GB saved and the subscription auto renews may 6th.
everything deleted was double deleted on the account and all devices this morning.
the reason is the bank card that pays iCloud is being canceled soon.
That apply button does not want to work, even after logging out of the iphone and ipad
the account was logged out of al the devices and will try later
unless someone knows if there is a better way or any way to downgrade.

What happened was the iCloud email received a notification that
the 50gB was reduced to free at 5gb when the time was up, which would have been nice if there was a heads
up or any literature about this process.
silly apple, tricks are for magicians!
