Earlier I posted https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=7330681#post7330681 saying that I didn't know what i was doing and updated my iphone with itunes and then used quickpwn to jailbreak. Now I have modem firmware 2.30.03.

And I'm reading everywhere that there's no way to downgrade from 2.30.03 in order to use yellowsn0w.

So what to do now? I need to unlock my iPhone. I got my iPhone just on friday. Should I return it (saying battery has a problem or something) and get a new one? Is the iPhone Dev Team working on 2.30.03, and if so, how long do they usually take before they fix the issue?

Thanks

Well my guess is it's no use just swapping it, since that version of the baseband has been around for quite a while and the new phone will also probably have it on.

Your choice is either return it and ask for your money back (but restore it first so it's no longer jailbroken), or buy one of the SIM unlocking cards like turbosim, or just wait to see if the Dev Team unlocks 3.0

I am heavily against going back and claiming there is an issue when there isn't because YOU made negligent actions.

There is no way to downgrade that baseband.

Not sure why you need to unlock your phone. No one NEEDS to do it, they do it because they want to.

I also can't stand when people make the same topic, on the same board.

really? Tell me what else you can't stand and I'll make sure I'll do exactly that.
Also, my 1st post was about what to do with 02.30.03 and yellowsn0w, and the topic said so. My 2nd one (this) is more specific, how to downgrade. The more specific a topic is, the better since people can search the topics for their answers.
So relax, chill, and understand that this is just a forum and I'm just a guy who doesn't have an infinite source of money to buy another cell phone for my travels (which I do frequently). So yes, I NEED to unlock this.
And if I claim there's an issue with my phone when there's none, why the hell would you care? It's not like the north american telecommunication industry is so kind to us with their overpriced plans, phones, and 3-year jail terms that lags in every way behind the European and Asian telecommunication industries.

I care because it is people like you who ruin the chances of honest people returning products that actually have issues.

Perhaps you should have read the Dev Teams blog like the rest of us?

I am now. I actually read all the comments too. Like I said, I'm new to this thing so please, if someone didn't read the Dev Team's blog or missed some instructions, it's not because they're lazy or whatever. It's because they honestly don't know. In my case, I googled what to do, found a website saying I should do this and that to jailbreak, and I do, and then I find out that I shouldn't have 02.30.03. This has all come through readings done on my own. I've asked 3 questions on 2 different forums and apart from this thread, which is somewhat hostile, I haven't gotten any help.

Now I don't know if my new iphone was already shipped with that version of bb or not though, but doesn't matter. And MistaBungle, I can return my phone within 15 days. Doesn't have to be broken or have a problem. If I'm not satisfied, I can return it.

I had to restore my iphone and it upgraded my baseband.. I couldnt use yellowsn0w... so what I did was I went on craigslist and found someone selling turbo sim cards. I went to 2 different guys, first guy the card didnt work so I didnt buy.. went to a second guy and it worked.... Now I have my iphone working again. I suggest you find one that sells these cards it cost me $20. I got it in chinatown (NYC where I live). Good Luck!!

If I had just gotten a phone on Friday, I would have read everything about breaking/unlocking before I did anything to it.

It would be different if you had the phone for 6 months and just decided to break/unlock it on Friday.

As stated, there is no known way to go back. Believe me, I have tried a bunch of different ideas and the process aborts unless you restore to the highest version ever loaded on the phone.

I also agree, another thread was unnecessary as a new post on the old one bumps the thread back to the top.

And, we choose to unlock the phone, none of us need to do it (as the phone will work as intended without being altered), we just want to do it.

Sorry, but I have the same problem -- a new iPhone with the new BB, and that means I can't JB the phone, not just unlock it. Sure, I can JB it -- but then I get no signal.

So I'd like to hear if someone has a solution. I miss alot of my JB features.

I'm pretty sure you can JB your phone. I JB mine. And now that I think of it, my phone came in 02.30.03. I didn't update it.

You can jailbreak, but not unlock (without using sim method)

up/down grade of modem firmware

I have the upgrade utility and baseband 2.28 for iphone 3g. I have attempted a downgrade but as you are all aware downgrade is not possible.

I need help from the more technical member of the community, heres the idea:

hex edit the labels to reflect the baseband 2.28 as 2.30.03 (or even 2.30.04) that way the upgrade utility actually writes the modem flash. I have attemted this. there are 2 baseband files/images. *.eep and *.fls. From memory the *.fls file has text labels that I modified to reflect 2.30.03, however, when trying to reflash it reports a version mismatch between the .fls and the .eep images.

Can anyone guide me on how to change the .eep to be compatible or advise on the feasibility of using .eep from 2.30.03 baseband?

I need more technical information as I cannot go further or advise on the feasibility of my ideas at this stage.

accoring to a new souce you can downgrade it now... if that turns out to be false use a gevey sim ...it works great. I think im going to stick with that even if the downgrader works

bootloader version

Just one question... I've read all the info I could dredge up, but apologize if I missed or can't remember something...

How do I know what bootloader version I have? so I can tell if this downgrade will work for me.

My iPhone 3G is on 2.2.1 with 02.30.03 and won't recognize my SIM. I read about how to fix that... and know the difficulties... this downgrade sounds like it would make life easier since I wouldn't have to get a SIM fix or piggyback SIM or whatever the extra little chip is called.

Thanks for any help.

OOPS, I meant to post off the Downgrade Baseband link... Now I did, but don't know how to delete this one.
