So as the title says, I cant seem to download my personal music collection from the cloud to my phone. All i have is a red cloud against all my songs and if I manually press the red cloud, then some songs download and some wont. Even selecting an album and downloading all the tracks on that album, some download and some just give the spinning red circle. Music that i purchased from Apple downloads fine.
I have
1) Deleted the music app and reinstalled
2) Switch off Apple Music and "sync Library" and back on again.
3) Switched off Wifi and Cellular"
4) Signed out of my account and back in again followed by a hard reset
5) Toggled airplane mode on and off
6) Toggled "Automatic download" on and off - this option is supposed to download music so it can be played off line

I cannot work out why some songs accept a forced download and some won't.

I have called Apple who remoted on to my phone to see what was going on and they are not sure what the issue is.

Any ideas guys?

So are you talking about songs that aren't already present on your new phone but were present on your prior handset? If you didn't buy from Apple (ripped from a CD, or mp3 files) you will need to connnect the handset to the computer those songs are housed on and sync your itunes library to get the file onto your phone. iCloud doesn't store the files for music - only a placeholder.

Yes thats right., My old phone had 12 gig of music that i ripped from my CD's and i have had that music for years. I see what you are getting at because I would need to sync from iTunes using a mac or PC to get my personal collection on to the phone. Thats an issue now as my MacBook is a 2011 and doesn't support the latest version of iTunes. When I connect my iphone 11 Pro max, it doesn't see it.

If you have Apple Music on iTunes does store your library in the cloud, if you’re not subscribed to Apple Music you must subscribe to iTunes Match to store your music in the cloud. Match is an annual fee, Apple Music is a monthly fee.

Yeah i have Apple Music so all my music is available including my ripped stuff but its all in the cloud

Could be the servers are bombarded today as many are redownloading our music. Maybe give it a day to see if it changes.

Yes that’s what I am doing and the problem is that if I click on an album it downloads some of the tracks but not all of them. I just end up with a red spinning circle on some songs.. Apple senior tech support have escalated it to engineering because they remote connected to my phone so they could see what’s happening and they’re not sure what is going on and why it is only downloading certain tracks

Yep I also have some tracks on playlists that won’t download at all. I deleted the track then I searched track on Apple Music library and added it back to playlist and then it downloaded. I don’t want to do that with all the tracks. Hopefully this will get fixed through Applemusic soon.

Yeah that would take a long time to do each stack selectively. I will let you know what Apple support say

Hi there! Did you ever get a reply from Apple? I have the same exact problem and it’s quite annoying
Hi, Apple have escalated the issue to engineering so nothing back as yet.
I did find a solution that allowed me to update iTunes on my ageing 2011 MacBook Pro so that iTunes would recognise my 11Pro Max and i was then able to switch of iCloud syncing so that i would sync my music locally and then I switched iCloud syncing back on.

I’m having this same issue and it’s driving me crazy!
I’m unable to download some of the music that has been uploaded to iCML. I can stream it, so I guess that means it’s in the cloud, but it won’t download. I’ve noticed that a lot of the tracks I’m having issues with, are not available on Apple Music... The strange things some of them that aren’t available on Apple Music do download fine.
I might be wrong but my theory so far is that it affects mainly songs that at one point were available on Apple Music but aren’t anymore. But it shouldn’t make any difference to me as they are songs I’ve uploaded myself back in the day when I started to use Apple Music and even before with iTunes Match...
Did you ever hear anything back from Apple?
Cheers.
