Can't drag files up or down in a window, please help.

Hi,

For some reason this morning I can't drag files up or down in a finder window in Mac OS Sierra on my 2012 MBP. Before if I dragged a file up towards the top/bottom of the window the window wold scroll up/down so I could place the file in a folder etc that might be at the top/bottom of the window. Now if I drag the file to the top/bottom nothing generally happens. Sometimes it will stutter and move down one row of files and then stop again.

What's going on and how can I fix it?

Just checked my iMac and this is the same so maybe it's a Sierra bug?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes, if you look at the screen shot below I've tried dragging the Meerkat photo from the top left down to the bottom of the window (there's about another 200 photos in that window) where I have a folder that I want to put it in, but when I drag the photo to the bottom of the visible window as you can see here it won't scroll down the window like it used to do.

Will be interesting to see if you do. I've found a workaround for now in that if I click and hold on the trackpad with one finger and then use two other fingers to scroll up and down I can then move the file to the top/bottom of the entire window, but I'd still like to know how to fix my problem as it's not the best solution.

Try switch to the items as a list with icon view. This seems to work for me.

Thanks, but whilst that does work it's not really a solution to me as I need to see the thumbnails/icons to see which photos I'm moving.

When I use that view I see a small thumb picture. You don't see that?

Only of that one file selected, but I don't want to have to click on each individual file to see what's what. The thumbs in the left column are far too small to see. I'll pop to apple if it continues to bug me.

In Icon View, I am able to "coax" it into scrolling, by holding the file I'm dragging on the bottom of the window, moving it slightly up and down, holding, repeat... But, it's jerky, and there's no "sweet spot" that causes it to scroll smoothly and effectively. I tried modifier keys, to no avail. It definitely does not work as well as it used to.

Thanks for this, it does appear that it's a potential glitch with Sierra then. I can also coax mine to a degree, but it takes a lot of faff and even then it might never reach the bottom.
