The title is a little misleading.

I have an iphone 11 and I also have an imac 2015 running High Sierra, 10.13.6. Since upgrading to High Sierra I can no longer email photos to myself from my Iphone. They go to my email server, but Mail cannot downloadn them. The email arrives in Mail, but there is an icon that says the photo is downloading, but it never does. If I send the photo to someone else, they get it fine. When they email it to me, Mail cannot download it.

This only happens with photos sent from my iphone. Photos that do not originate on my phone can be received in Mail normally.

So it's only in the Mail app on your Mac that is unable to download the photo, right? The Mail app on your iPhone can download it, correct? If so, have you tried forwarding that email to yourself again to see if that makes a difference on the Mac end? In other words:

1. send the email with embedded photo from iPhone
2. open (on your iPhone) the received the email you just sent with your iPhone and be sure the photos download
3. still on your iPhone, forward the received email from your iPhone to yourself again
4. open that second email in Mail on your Mac to see if the photo now downloads

May seem convoluted, but I'd just be curious if that works or not.

Hi. Thanks for your reply.

I don't use email on my phone because of another issue. Whenever I check emails on my phone or from my computer they are immediately removed from the server and I no longer have access to them. Consequently I don't check email from my phone because I do most of my work from my computer and need access to emails from there. . My server has said they only see this with macs.

I haven't checked email on my phone for a couple years or more. I just checked it and the In box is empty. I have no idea why, but I no longer seem to get email on my phone.

I got mail working on my phone.

Sent photo to self.
Opened in Mail on phone: no problem, photo downloaded ok.
Forwarded email with photo to myself.
opened in Mail on computer: Will not download from server.

I have no idea what's going on then. I will say I had this issue on my iPhone (not my Mac) at another person's house, even though I was on wi-fi and had no issues with any other apps. For some reason, no attachments would download in Mail in iOS, but as soon as I was back on 5G or my own wi-fi network, no problem. Bizarre!

Obviously you can't easily pick up your iMac and leave the house to try another wi-fi network, but if you are able to use your phone as a hotspot, you might try switching your phone to cellular data only and then using it as a base station to connect your iMac to the internet to see if that makes a difference.

Thank you. It seems that whenever I update my operating system I go through a period of problems. Some never get resolved. Same with my last imac. In fact I bought this imac because after updating my last one, it would no longer funtion. Apple said it was compatible with the upgrade, but the apple sore people said even though apple says that, it is in fact not compatable. Thanks Apple!

I take a lot of photos with my phone and edit them on my cpomputer. Well, I used to until I installed High Sierra.

I stopped using PCs because of issues like this and now it's the sane with Apple.

I've also tried using Airdrop as a work-around, but I cannot log into icloud from my computer because it will not accept my password. I changed the password, but it still not work. I have no problem logging into icloud from my iphone.

UPDATE: I rebooted my imac and can now log into icloud and use airdrop. The original issues persist however.

SOLVED!: rebooting did not help prior to this, but this time it seems to have fixed the problem of not being able to receive my photos in email. I am now able to download photos emailed to myself.
