I can no longer see the option to select Big Sur as my chosen upgrade in the Software Update drop down in system preferences. It is only giving me the option of Monterey , which I don't want to install yet as it is very new ( I worry about bugs etc )
Lightroom has a new release that wont work with Mojave that I currently have on my iMac so I want to go to Big Sur

Where can I find Big Sur to upgrade ?

Cheers

Hi David

Thanks for the suggested secret link but unfortunately it goes to the App store and when I press the GET button it whirs for a while and then comes back saying "Update not found.. The requested version of MacOS is not available"

It is still only giving me the option of Monterey. Perhaps it's because it is the latest version and Apple are wanting to push it out to as many users as they can.

Here is another trick. Download a macOS Big Sur dmg file, you can find many online. Mount the disk image and you will see Install macOS Big Sur app in it. Now, open the installation app and start the upgrading process.

p.s I found out Big Sur is no long available in my local App Store.

OK, this will work!
It downloads a package file that installs the Big Sur installer in your Applications folder.
It is legitimate, so don't worry. I and many others have used this site.
Another great site is where you can find "SilentKnight", which is great for simple updates to Big Sur.
Recommended to run it after you do the regular install;

Did you manage to get updated to Big Sur?

Hi David

No.. the link still shows Monterey as the only option.. Feels like I am being bullied by Apple. I have too much to risk by upgrading to Monterey just yet .. as my photographic endeavours depend greatly on the OS being stable and able to run Lightroom and Photoshop without glitches / bugs.

I don't understand what you mean by "the link still shows" ...
In my last post, I sent you a link to the Mr. Macintosh site, which has the Big Sur installer files available.
Here is the latest on that site:
Download that, and double click on it. It will install the Bug Sur installer in your application folder (you can delete the installassistant.pkg file now)
Double click on the Big Sur installer in the application folder (it will install Big Sur, but you need to run Silentknight after that to pick up some other files, Safari updates, etc.)
Bon Voyage

I just used this link:
