hi,
Mac monterey 12.51
when i open finder there is no downloads folder
if i go into preferences and sidebar, the downloads box is ticked, but it just has the symbol and no lettering to say downloads
i can find it by searching but its a white page and not a document and when you click it says 'the operation can't be completed because the item can't be found'

how can i resolve this?

Where? In the sidebar or in the file pan for your home directory?

To go to the folder you can click in the finder files pane or use the go menu to ~/Downloads..

The standard location for the Downloads, by default, is your home folder, the one named "edwardgarrahy"
Do you see a Downloads folder in the edwardgarrahy folder?

....and if you want it in the sidebar just drag it there. Same goes for any favourite/frequently used folder.

It's not normal to have the down arrow symbol and no name for the Downloads folder in your Sidebar pane of preferences. I'm wondering if your Finder Preferences are corrupt.

One way to test that is to log in under a different user name and see if "Downloads" shows up. If it does, then that's a sign that the preferences are corrupt in your User Account.

To reset your Finder Preferences, hold down Option, click on the Go Menu, and select Library. Now open the Preferences Folder and look for the file com.apple.Finder.plist

When you find that file, drag it out to the Desktop. Now Restart.

The OS will make a new Finder.plist file set to factory defaults. If the name shows up now, you've solved the problem and the file you placed on the Desktop can be deleted.
