Hey there,

I've searched and searched but can't find the IPSW file I need to jailbreak my iphone. I've jailbroken many times before and am not a newb when it comes to this. I'm using windows 7 and show hidden files is checked (checked about a dozen times). I've looked in the AppData folder for My user, Default and Public Folders but can't find the file nor folder called "Itunes Software Update".

I've seen this post and many others like it on google, all just basically giving the location for the ipsw file and the fact you need to check the folders to make sure that hidden files are being displayed. I have done this a million times but no answer has been found.

I've attached several images showing what I see in certain locations as well as the fact that hidden files/folders is checked. I've also tried searching the OS for any "IPSW" file, with no luck. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Whenever I do that, I am greeted with:

The IPSW file you selected does not match any firmware version QUickPwn (or redsnow for that matter) supports. Either the IPSW file is corrupted, or the firmware version is unsupported.

I've downloaded the same file from multiple different websites, all witht eh same error

Don't know what version of firmware you want to update to, but Quickpwn and Redsn0w are outdated.

DL the firmware package, then use iTunes with SHift + Click to install it.

The Firmware should already be jailbroken by someone who made it with Pwnage Tool.

There is a thread giving the links for pre-made JB IPSW firmware here (Since you are running Windoze and PT needs Mac OS)

Here

If you are having difficulties using Win7, then I will let you figure that out on your own.

If I use the shift + click method to restore the phone via iTunes using a jailbroken iphone, it restores the iphone to the default (non-jailbroken) version.

I just tested that again by downloading the 3.1.2 firmware from http://www.poorlad.com/iCommunity/ for iphone 3g and restored the phone and it is now back to the default.

Oh, I see now "All iPhone/3G/3GS firmwares up to v3.0.1 have been jailbroken."

I wish they would make it clear the recent versions have not been jailbroken yet

You can jailbreak the new firmware, you just can't do it with Redsn0w. You can do it either using PwnageTool to create a custom firmware or by running blackra1n. Both work on 3.1.2.

I mean, when you searched Google, what exactly did you search for besides "jailbreak 3.1.2"? I mean, the first hit tells you exactly what to use and how to use it and what it works with.

The following quote (just by itsself) shows he did not manage to adequately research how to jailbreak firmware 3.1.2

Or if he had just bothered to read a couple of the other threads about jailbreaking 3.1.2 posted right here ??
