I have put my old ringtones in the correct format. None are over 30 seconds long. I see the ringtones on my phone while it's plugged into my computer. Where the heck do they go? This is an iPhone 5c. I have tried to sync them several times and see the history of my syncs on my iPhone.

Can't find the ringtones I sync from iTunes

I am having the same problem with my 5s/32 ... brand new iPhone and I am a newbie at this as well.
So far I have not been able to get new ring tones from my iPhone apps to make it ... you are a bit more along then I am as you have them in your iTunes iPhone section of you iMac.
Seems I have not found a the ring tone place yet ... but I got all the Apps sorted out that I want. This iPhone is a nice toy to have. I can see why people want to steal it so much ... and it is much harder to do ... as cops come a knocking on your door .. especially if you have the 'Find my iPhone App' installed and active.
Keep posting here if you figure it out ...

When I sync ringtones to my phone they become available for use in Settings> Sounds> Ringtone, Text tone, etc.
OOOkay. Here's what I realized.
I am pretty new to iTunes. I was going back and forth in iTunes from my device to my Library. I was wondering what the dotted circles next to each ringtone meant. I googled it a saw that means these are in the process of being synced but aren't done yet? They are m4r and the boxes are all checked. I hit SYNC and try to watch what all the steps iTunes is doing but it goes too quickly. And as I stated, these tones are all 30 seconds or less.
