I have a new 13" MBP and the 27" HP Envy USB C monitor. I'm trying to find a hub that will allow me to connect a single cable to my laptop. I only need to connect a USB keyboard and the display. I've purchased the Avotch and Satechi hubs.

Both work for the keyboard but neither of them pass video through to the monitor. Do I need to be looking for a new kind of hub or dongle?
[doublepost=1482854771][/doublepost]After doing some further research, it looks like I need a hub that not only has USB C but also Thunderbolt 3 if I want to charge and pass video through the USB C port. Is that correct? If so, are there any products on the market yet that will do this?

The hubs you have been looking at have USB-C ports designed for power passthrough - not data (or video).

But, if you have the HP USB-C monitor, why not just use one of the USB-C ports on the back of it to connect your keyboard? No hub needed.

Because the monitor only has 1 USB C port. It also has 2 HDMI port but that then has me connecting 2 cables. I'm trying to find a hub that will allow me to connect the keyboard and the laptop with a single cable. Are there any currently available hubs that will pass video and power over USB C?
The LG monitor has 3 USB C ports. With that, I could use an adapter to leave the keyboard plugged into the display at all times and then just connect another USB C cable from the display to the laptop. But the HP monitor is half the price of the LG monitor so that's why I went with it.

You would need a thunderbolt 3 hub that has a thunderbolt 3 pass through. Not cheap. Better off getting a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

why not connect your monitor with HDMI to one of your USB-C hubs? You will need to connect the hub to power, but it is still just the hub that needs to be connected to the MBP.

TB3 Hubs like the CalDigit TS3 Plus will work, been using one for a few years and it does video pass through with no problems.

HDMI doesn't support 60Hz???
Not sure where that information is coming from.

Overview of HDMI 2.0

HDMI 2.0 was developed by the HDMI Forum to provide new functionality for this widely adopted technology. Released in September 2013, the specification includes support of increased bandwidth up to 18 Gbps, resolutions up to 4K @ 60 Hz, simultaneous delivery of two video streams and up to four audio streams, 32 channels of audio, as well as other key enhancements. It is backward compatible to earlier specification versions, simplifying integration within existing AV systems. HDMI 2.0 is designed to enhance the video and audio experience for the audience.

It comes from Huawei website

It also confirmed on previous pages, this monitor has more resolution than UHD 4K (3849 x 2160 pixel)

**Maximum resolution and refresh rate supported by HDMI 2.0 port is 3840 x 2560@50 Hz.

Sounds more like a limitation with Huawei than HDMI 2.0. Every other place you look it clearly states that it supports 4k at 60Hz.

2.0 for 4K
With the TV industry moving inexorably toward Ultra HD "4K," it was clear there needed to be more bandwidth in the connection to handle the future's higher resolutions and frame rates. On that front, HDMI 2.0 delivers, supporting "4K" (2160p by the Forum's explanation) up to 60fps.
