Hello,

I recently purchased a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 2G, running version 2.2. It does not have a SIM card. I've noticed that it is usually unable to find a WiFi connection, even at home (we have WEP encryption, and it has found it a few times). At the college, there is no encryption and it has never found the network. My 2G iPod Touch and my computers are able to find these networks in the same places with no problem. Is there any way I can fix this?

Firstly, I have no iPhone experience. I may miss something simple.

Have you tried the "Join other network" option, where you input both the password and the name of the network? It may have a hidden SSID (network name.)

By the way, you may want to upgrade your computer network from WEP to WPA. WEP can be cracked in under 2 minutes.

Yep, I did try that. It only worked once at home, but didn't work at all at the college (they have no password there, but I typed the name).

sounds pretty broken to me restore it to 2.2.1 with pwnagetool
or the stock 2.2 and jailbreak with quickpwn

I tried updating it to 2.2.1 stock, and then re-jailbroke it with QuickPwn, however I am still experiencing the same problem

i just sent mine to apple. wifi stopped working, restored ipod and then called in. I just sent it back friday for a replacement.

Do you think they would replace it? I didn't figure they would, since it is way out of warranty (though the guy I bought it from did give me the original receipt).

All I had to do was reset network settings. First I couldn't detect my own wireless, then once I did this, it detected and connected.

Thanks for the reply, but I've tried this numerous times as well. I've updated it, restored it, reset network settings, restarted it, reset all settings, etc. and nothing has seemed to work. I don't believe it is my router either, as my mom's iPhone is also 2.2.1 jailbroken, and finds the network with no problems.

Darn dude. This drove me nuts when it happened. My roommates found it no problem but I couldn't. Sorry to hear it didn't work.

Still having the problem, but I've noticed something interesting. If I use the iPhone in the evening (and only the evening, this does not work during the day), sync it to my laptop, and then eject it but keep it plugged in, sometimes it will find my home wifi network. It will then stay connected, even if I unplug it, for about an hour to two hours, then I am back to having no WiFi again. It still will not find any other WiFi networks anywhere else. What is wrong with this iPhone?
