I have an older flat panel, a 42" philips 42pf9630a. This one:

I plugged my brand new Apple TV into the HDMI and switched input on the TV. I can see the Apple TV main menu but it blips in and out, toggling between the main menu and snow. Obviously there's some sort of communication issue between the Apple TV and my Philips. Is it because my TV is too old? Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this??

Thanks for your help!

Do you have any other display with HDMI inout to test the Apple TV with or another HDMI source to test the TV with, or do you have another HDMI cable to test with?

Good question. I tested it with the TV in the bedroom. Works perfectly. I've used this Apple TV (and HDMI cable) on multiple TV sets without issue.
