On a MacBook Pro with the Latest Sierra. Dication and enhanced dictation is on. I tried trashing the relatated pref file turning off dictation, rebooting then turning dictation back on. Siri can hear me ok and responds normally. Currently I'm using the internal mic and speakers, which work fine for Skype. If I open up TextEdit and press the function key twice I get the little microphone icon as well as a tone. But that's a far as it goes, no text will input when I start speaking. Had a look around the interwebs and it seems I've done everything that should make it work, and indeed it looks like it wants to work, but it will not respond.

Solved:

Even though I had the Sound Prefs set to internal microphone and even though Siri works with the internal microphone, I found another setting in the Keyboard Prefs > Dictation where there is another setting for the microphone which was set to Automatic but nevertheless remained set to my audio interface. Setting this manually to 'internal microphone' solved the problem.

kinda of partially fixed it...changed settings to internal mic ..i think it was automatic codec etc...before any way working now...but some residual operator problems as usual.
