Cant get email to work

I have a 3g iphone and I cant seem to get the email servers to work properly. I have charter email and I have the phone jailbroken and am using tmobile service. I was told that even with the different service the mail would work. I've tried a few different mail settings (pop.charter.net, looked at my buddies who has charter but using AT&T service on his phone and his outgoing server is cwmx.com and his email works fine).

Anyone have some good incoming and outgoing server settings to use?

Having a similar issue on my new macbook. Incoming seems to work fine...incoming is a no go.
