EDIT:
I successfully unlocked my phone, made a call and everything. Set up contacts, etc etc. I synced as well. I left it plugged into my computer and after about 45 the Steve Jobs Cartoon came up and said the iPhone is in DFU mode and I need to restore! I'm almost at my limit as to trying to get this damned thing to work. Anyone know why it did that?

Now I can't even restore from ANY ipsw without it saying "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (28)"

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's my original post which I got past, but you may find the information helpful.

I have an iphone 2g that I've been trying to unlock so I can use an AT&T pay as you go SIM. (I own two other contract iPhones)

I've installed firmware 3.1.2, then I ran pwnage tool and followed all the steps.

The pineapple was up and running and the phone worked. But when I went to put in the other SIM, no matter what (even after I switced Bootneuter to unlock) it says, it's the WRONG SIM, plug into itunes etc.

How can I get it to set up properly so that the phone isn't expecting my contract sim? If I take it out it won't let me put in anything else. I'm guessing something is wrong in my steps via installing firmware, creating the custom ipsw, etc. Which SIM should I start installing with?
