Ok guys, I am lost here. First mac and I have done everything I can find on the subject but can not get the mac to connect to the pc. My files I want are on an external HD that is formatted to the windows machine. So I want to get those off the external onto the Mac then format it so both can share it on the network. I have done all the steps to get the home network setup on the windows pc, the mac sees it when I am in finder but it will not connect. What am I missing? A little background... Mac mini is plugged right in to the router, PC is wireless. I have tried the smb://ipadddress/networkname, cifs://ipaddress, etc... nothing. Also, I can't see the mac in the network places on the windows pc. Thanks

If the drive is formatted NTFS and you want to keep it that way, try a program called Paragon. If the drive is FAT32, the Mac should be able to read it. You could let the Mac format the drive for FAT larger than 32GB.

If you cannot even see the drive, make sure your wireless network is using the same router the drive is on, and not looking at another router, like your neighbors. That happened to me.
