I had to do a hard restart(held the sleep/wake button and the center home button at the same time) because my iPhone froze, now it wont turn on at all. I've tried for the last 20mins. It will turn on and the Apple logo will appear and then it just turns back off. Any ideas? Its never been dropped or had any accidents with water.
32GB, Black 3GS.

had this happen to my buddies 16gb S, had to trick it into itunes screen to do another restore, while plugged into usb/itunes keep trying the power/home button reset steps and see if you can get the itunes screen. if not plan on heading to apple store

Try plugging it in and see what happens.

your post deserves the "most helpful post of the year" award.. wtf @ plug it in

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

Plugging the iPhone in should cause it to power on.

Sadly, plugging it in has been the best advice thus far.

Doesn't look like you have any better advice to give either.

Try plugging it into itunes. If it doesn't respond to that the next stop is the Apple store :)

Um, clearly you can't create one post and have to post right after.

Surely we can give better help to the OP than what was given here?

First open iTunes and connect your iPhone cord to your computer, but do not plug it into your iPhone. Then press and hold the home button on your phone while connecting the iPhone cord into your iPhone and continue to hold down the home button. Then click restore in iTunes.

Thanks for the great info everyone! Unfortunatly, none of it worked....looks like i'll be heading to Apple tomorrow...:(

Hold the Home and Power buttons to shut down your iPhone. Once it has done this and it's not rebooting, press down these buttons again for ten seconds, no more, no less. After this (your screen should be black/off), release the power button but continue holding the home button for ten seconds. iTunes should recognize your iPhone as being in restore mode.

Without even connecting it, hold the power and home button for 10-20 seconds. My sister's 2g wouldn't turn on at all one time and that did the trick.

Have had a freezing problem on my 3g most days since i upgraded to 3.1.

The phone will not switch on with the home button

Will try holding it for 10 seconds and see what happens...

Also:
Syncing takes 15 minutes with no new content added (cleared picture roll just in case)

Looking forward to 3.1.2....
