I know there have been other threads on Battery Life but none seem to address how much usage people actually get before having to recharge.

It seems I charge my battery overnight and it lasts fine for the first day. I use very little phone time and about 40 txt messages a day along with 20 mins of internet. WIFI off, Bluetooth off, e-mail on manual.

When I wake up the 2nd day and look at the battery its at about half. With almost identical usage as the previous day the battery dies out in the early evening, therefore giving me just 36 hrs of standby. I looked at the actual 'usage' indicator and it said 6 hrs, 14mins.

Again, the usage is about 40 txt messages a day and 20-30 mins of internet along with 3 or 4 songs on the iPod. It just seems odd that with no major usage the battery can't even surpass 36hrs.

Is this normal? And how much 'usage' time do u guys get before you have to recharge?

I have noticed that my phone gets about an hour or so less battery life since 1.1.1 came out. Although, if you got over 6 hours of usage out of it along with all the standby time, that is not bad. If you use EDGE at all it drains your battery a lot faster than WiFi does. I would make sure you have your screen set to auto brightness and have the brightness meter right about in the middle of the adjustment bar. Remember, the iPhone is rated at 8 hours of talk, 6 hours of internet and 7 hours of video playback. If you are using a combo of talking and internet you would expect between 6 and 8 hours of actual usage before the battery dies, but I do not believe this number includes standby time. The longer you are on standby, the less hours of usage you will be able to get. If you got a little over 6 hours of usage over 36 hours I would say that is normal for the battery life.

Oh yeah, I average using my phone between 3-5 hours per day. I charge every night. The longest I have got my battery to go was a little over 4 hours of usage over about 40 hours of standby. When I did this my battery did not die, but I did get the red battery with the 20% warning.

Ok, that puts me more at ease. Making the comparison it seems this is normal then.
