Every time I try to post to the Audio video forum(AVS) I get annoying page saying I have three virus and all the rest of the threats. I immediately close safari and open it and its gone but comes back periodically. I have free malware app and scan all the time and it says Im clean. If I choose to go to Firefox to visit the AVS forum no virus page ever shows up. I assume this thing is connected to safari and AVS forum but I just want to get rid of it. Any other free malware type apps that might find and get rid of this thing? I don't see anything in my Download area that looks suspicious. Thanks for help

Just so I'm clear - you're only getting this message from one specific website, and it only happens when you're trying to post on their forums, right? If this is the case, I would contact the administrators of the website. If it's a bogus message, no anti-malware or anti-virus program can get rid of the threat because the threat doesn't exist.

Well I thought that but it comes in in two ways. One keeps saying my flash player is out of date and needs to be updated which is not true(checked it in system preferences). That one comes in anywhere when Im in safari.(came up in iTunes) The other thread that says I have a virus keeps popping up in AVS forum but only when I use safari.None of these show up if I use Firefox anywhere.

Download MalwareBytes and run it:

IMPORTANT:
Select the "home" option.
It's a FREE download

IMPORTANT:
You DO NOT NEED TO BUY A SUBSCRIPTION to run MalwareBytes.
It will run FOREVER IN FREE MODE.
When you open it, IGNORE the button to "Upgrade Now".
Just click "Scan Now".
Again, you DO NOT have to buy the pay-for version!

I’m wondering if the bogus virus threat is coming from an advertisement that Safari is seeing but Firefox is blocking. Have you tried using an adblocker in Safari and whitelist everything except the page on which you’re getting the threat?

While not experiencing this on my iMac, I have had the same problem on my iPhone X and iPad. It usually only occurs on three websites that I visit frequently. Like the OP, the AVS forum is one of them. The other two are Flightaware.com and MacDailyNews.com. I get the unwanted popups saying that I have 3 virus on my computer or I have won a $1000 gift card from Amazon. I have 1 blocker running on both iOS devices, but it did not help. Thankfully, the issue seems to have gone away for now. MDN posted an article about what was going on with these popups and explained that it was not a virus. If I can find the article, I will post a link here.

Try Wipr adblock (you can download in the App Store) and make sure popups are blocked in Safari’s preferences.

Thanks for your help. Cant find anything in Safari preferences that mentions popups and ability to block them?

Go to Preferences and select the Websites tab. Then you should see Pop-up Windows selected on the left side at the bottom. You can manage pop-ups for specific sites and your global preferences (block, allow, or block and notify) from there. Hope this helps.
