can't get video playback full-screen

my wife's 5C does this thing when you try to shoot a movie wide-view (holding long side horizontally), it only plays back the movie with the elongated, vertical-skinny screen, with the two black strips on either side. is there some easy fix for this?

Didn't know such a thing existed. Where can I find it? Looked under settings >camera but didn't see it there

It's more of a device option, generally one that's in the control center these days. You'd usually see an icon for it in the status bar at the top when its enabled.
