I am going a school video project on my mac and trying o use video from a sony handycam. The files I have are .MPG and i'm im understanding this, I need .MPEG-4 right?

Any free converters out there?

You want to use MPEGStreamClip and convert to DV video to edit it not Mpeg4.
once you're done editing it, you'll want to burn it to DVD using iDVD and/or if you to view it online, you'll probably want to use H.264 ( or mpeg4 if you want )

I still didn't figure this out :(

How can I get my .mpg movies to import into iMovie?
 
I'm using VLC to convert them to MPEG-4 at 1048kb/s...Will the quality of the clips be good enough you think?
