It should work from Photos but you could also use the Apple built in Image Capture app.

Is phone unlocked?

Intrigued by your computer model "M1 Extreme Mac Pro".....a lot of people waiting for that one!

Having exact the same problem on brand-new MBP 16 M1 Max and iPhone 12 ( 8 weeks old ). However, after loging into save mode all works fine. Finder recognition of iPhone, image capture and photos recognizes my iPhone 12 perfect. As soon as I restart and return to normal mode the problem is back. I am at loss. Will call Apple Support tomorrow. PS. I am on Mac OS 12.1 and iOS 15.2

@stevenz18 . I fixed the problem. Here is wha I did. Disconnect iPhone from MBP. Go to your iPhone, please launch Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset, then select Reset Network Settings & Privacy from the menu. It will change your phone name to iPhone and you will have to manually punch in your WiFi network password after the reset. Once you are back and your iPhone is in the WiFi network again reconnect your phone to the Mac and open image capture. On your phone you will be asked to trust this device and you say trust. Then image capture will work so does Photos. You can change your phone name on your iPhone again by tapping Settings>General>About>Name. Thats it. Let me know if it worked for you. Cheers Mac
