In Software Update, it will show 10.10.1 as available, I click on update and for a few seconds it says "installing", but then just says "update" again as if I never clicked on it.

I manually downloaded the update and opened the installer. When I click "install", it finishes in 2 seconds (like its not installing) then asks me to restart. It restarts like normal (doesn't show updating/installing) and in "About Mac" still shows 10.10.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Same problem

I wonder if you got it solved. I'm on MacBook Pro Mid-2010
Would appreciate any feedback

Try booting to recovery menu, repair permissions, then reinstall from Apple. Doing that should save any personal content and update OS files.

Ok, thanks for the tip. I am not a big fan of recovery menus that delete more than discover, but I will it a try :)

Best

Solved this one. The answer is here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5675829

I just issued sudo chown -R _softwareupdate:_softwareupdate /var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_*

Holy crap that worked! So much searching and chatting on forums and THIS works! Can you tell me what this does and what this means in terms of what was going on with the OS on my machine? Thanks.

UPDATE: For some reason, after I installed 10.10.2, its showing no further updates required. However, I know there are other updates available, such as iTunes 12.1. Any ideas? Thanks.
