Basically "Installer" hangs right at the start... "Preparing {insert software name}"
Searched the web coudn't find anyone else with this problem. All I found was "I can't install mountain lion." I posted this on apple support and all I got was to check I was using an admin account - which I was. 1 user and its admin.
Repair disk permissions... that say "repaired", but I run it again immediately after and the same extensive list comes back with no change.
What is just confusing me though and is totally odd, is that when I boot from my old OS drive 10.6.8 - I can't install anything on that either! Neither on a clone of my partners boot drive? And my existing 10.8.5 system was installed from clean, so its not linked in any way to my old 10.6.8 system disk.
I basically have to install a certain version of ProTools so I can load a project which is why I have to deal with this issue. 3 different boot drives (10.6.8 and 10.8.5). The issue is NOT pro tools software version. I can't install ANYTHING... ANYWHERE.
I know more about computers than your average person, but Im not an expert by any means. The computer hardware couldn't be the issue could it??? That was my thought when the problem wasn't just with the main OS system drive.... But "not being able to install on whatever system drive I boot from makes me have no idea what the issue is. It runs extremely large projects for my work, just fine. Seems odd that "installing" is the one issue, even when I boot from a completely different HD (not even different partition... 3 completely separate system drives. My old 10.6.8 and different operating systems...
Any ideas anyone?
