I'm trying to reinstall MacOS Sierra, from the Recovery Mode screen

When I press continue - I get the dialog "To download and restore, your computer eligability with Apple etc" message

I press continue

And then noting happens. It just goes back to the same screen where I press continue to get this dialog :(

Is it because I have my startup disk running OS as the external drive which is a really basic one so everything is really slow? Something weird is going on

All I am trying to do is reset my Mac to factory settings, its taking ages to figure this out

It sure helps if you tell us which Mac you have and what year it was made.

Having said that, can you boot to internet recovery:
"command-OPTION-R"
???

If you can, what version of the OS does it offer to install?
