I am running Parallels 4.0 with Windows Vista Basic through my Boot Camp partition. I downloaded an update to Parallels, which apparently includes an update to Parallels Tools in windows. However, it then tells me that the Windows Installer does not have sufficient privileges to modify a file, which I think I remember being some .ink file. I am think asked to click "OK" to restart the virtual machine, which will automatically launch the Parallels Tools update when Windows starts again. That cycle goes on forever. I had to force quit Parallels to stop it. How can I fix this?

Here is what it says:

"Error 1321. The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:\Users\Public\Desktop\Parallels Shared Folder.Ink."

I placed the folder in the Recycle Bin and I still got the same message.

I was able to fix it. Just in case someone else has the same problem, this is what I had to do:

1. Go into the Control Panel, click Appearance and Personalization, then Folder Options. Check the setting in the Advanced (?) tab to view hidden folders.

2. Go to My Computer, the Parallels virtual hard drive, Users, then Public. You should see a faded out Desktop folder. You will need to right-click the Parallels Shared Files drive. Within that, you will be asked to verify to change permissions.

3. Do that, and you are set.

So much aggravation from Windows. No wonder I'm a "switcher".
