I have an imac 9 and it's stuck in a loop it'll load and Then a bunch of writing appears on it. I have tried everything that I've read in these forums to get it to boot from a usb where I have a new copy of the operating system and no matter what I've tried it will not do it it will not boot from the USB I'd rather get the computer working than throw it away but I'm at the point where I might throw it away this is a screenshot of what it does and it just keeps going in a loop it gets right to this point and then turns off and back on.

The latest version of Mac OS the iMac9,1 (2009) can run is 10.11 El Capitan. Is this the version of Mac OS you are trying to install from external USB?

yes initially I was going to install lion because of the age of the computer however when I tried to it gave me an error saying it must be El Capitan that is installed

How did you try to install Lion?

From the look of things, it seems like it's trying to boot from the Recovery Volume, but it's failing to do so.
