Computer: G3 iBook Dual USB 600MHz, latest iTunes (8.0.2?), 640Mb
iPod: 5G iPod (colour screen, plays movies). 30 Gb capacity.

OK I'm all out of options. Everytime I load my music, after about 3Gb I get this message:

"The iPod mofs's ipod cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."

The iPod can't be ejected (I have to shutdown the computer to eject it). I've tried:

Restoring the iPod
Changing the USB cable
Changing the Mac (to an iMac G3 - my parents')
Loading it on a Windows PC running XP
Disk Utility (can't run diagnostics on it - "Disk cannot be unmounted")

Nothing works so far. All my software is up to date. Any clues people?

I'm guessing you checked http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1207
Looks as if you've covered most of the bases...One thing catches my eye though, if you have the same music on the G3s and on the WinXP system it could be one of the audio files?

Yeah I've tried them as much as I can (as I said I can't unmount the iPod if iTunes tries to sync it).

The XP system has completely different songs on it. I've also tried deleting the library on my iBook and installing a new one but that hasn't worked.
