iPod Can't play songs on iPod through iTunes

i can play music on my itunes library but when i go into my ipod library and i click on a song nothing happens. no notice or anything, it just doesnt play..

i just downloaded the newest version of itunes,
its an ipod nano with the video camera
songs play fine on my ipod alone
