I've tried to print in color ever since I installed a color ink cartridge in the printer. I know the cartridge works because:
  • It is detected in the printer
  • I can print in color from my iPhone/iPad
...but I can't from my Mac. I've also tried a family member's Mac, and that doesn't work either. Both mine and the family member's are running Monterey 12.5. Another Mac (2012 MBA running Catalina) can print in color. I haven't tested this with my Mac Pro or Mac mini. Is this an issue with the printer, Monterey, or both/neither?

Are you saying that this printer was not capable of printing in color, until you installed a color ink cartridge?
Have you checked at printer's web site for updated printer software?
What printer do you have?

Sorry I worded it badly. The printer is fully capable of printing in color, but previously, I only had a black cartridge installed, and I just installed a color one in addition to the black. It's an HP OfficeJet 3830. I just checked, and there are no new firmware updates available. I'm thinking maybe this is a Monterey issue, since the other Mac with Monterey has the same problem.

Are you certain that Black & White printing is not selected in the printer dialog that comes up so that you can set printing preferences?

If it isn't selected and you are still getting black and white prints, I would try resetting the print system soon MacOS. Do a right-click on the list of printers in System Preferences and select Reset Printing System. You may have to reinstall your printers after doing this, I don't recall.

If the reset doesn't work the first time, delete your printer first and then reset and then reinstall.
