Just wanted to share this scenario with others.

I have a 10.5 iPad Pro from a few years ago. My current setup consists of the iPad with a basic third party case, a Bluetooth logictech mouse and a Logictech Keys To Go keyboard. The entire setup is very light and very flexible. I can take the iPad and the mouse, the iPad and the keyboard or all three. You get the idea.

I was thinking about upgrading to a newer device because I really wanted Face ID, but that was really a nice to have. I was also thinking about how nice it would be to have the keyboard, trackpad and iPad all in one self contained unit with the Magic Keyboard. The setup I have works great. Going the route of an iPad Pro 11 with the Magic Keyboard would add an additional .6 pounds. And while I would really like Face ID, I really don’t want the extra .6 pounds. I know that might sound ridiculous to most of you, but to me, every oz matters when it comes to carrying my device in my hand or the minuscule extra weight on my back in a backpack.

So while I think it would be awesome to have the iPad Pro 11 with the Magic Keyboard, and I would really like to have Face ID, I just can’t get myself to spending close to $1000 or more over what I have today. For those of you who prioritize weight, I’m sure you can appreciate it.

Just wondering if a different keyboard option could work for you? For example, the Smart Keyboard Folio is just under half of the weight of the Magic Keyboard.
I have the 12.9” and I just carry it with the Smart Cover and leave my Magic Keyboard at home as a dock. So I reduce carry weight that way. Not sure if that is also an option?

Let me help you. Face ID blows on both devices if you primarily use it in portrait because your hand initially covers the camera. The 10.5 was one of my favorite iPads because of the home button. I’d keep it.
