Can't put song from iTunes to CD??

Hi all,
OK, 1st off, I'm sorry if this is old or obvious, but I did search/browse for this topic before I posted... maybe I just missed it.

At any rate, my daughter has purchased some songs from the iTune store to our eMac. She can play it on the computer, and put it on her iPod mini, but it won't let her copy it to a CD, even once.

What's with that? The songs are bought and paid for, and I though you could make a CD for your own use (say, for in the car or something), up to a few times anyway. But iTunes won't permit it.

Yes, you definately can do that. Have you tried burning a CD with songs not bought from iTMS yet? If those songs work and iTMS ones don't I wouldn't know where to go from there .

What kind of CD are you trying to make? I'm not sure if you can burn them to an MP3 CD...or at least, you wouldn't be able to play that CD on anything. But you can definitely burn them to an audio CD. Go to preferences and then the burning pane and see what the settings are.

You can also copy the songs to a data CD, at least manually, but again, unless they're put back in iTunes on a computer authorized to the owning account, that won't do anything.

I don't know if this is what you are trying to do but I have seen some people actually trying to move files from the Library onto a blank CD.

I know this sounds elementary but these iTMS songs are in a Playlist and she is clicking the Burn Disc icon in the upper right hand corner right?

Go into edit/preferences/advanced/burning and make sure it's an audio cd and not a mp3 cd. These won't work with aac protected audio if your burning it just into files and not a normal audio format.

Well, I'm not at my eMac right now, so I can only try to remember the app layout.....
but basically I think she just buys the tunes, and puts them in a playlist or whatever.

Then, you should be able to burn the songs in the playlist... by clicking the "burn to CD" button in the upper right corner, or pulling up the context menu (or however you do it). But when you do, iTunes comes back and complains that some songs can't be copied because they are protected. Or it says you can't use the current format on a CD, but if you try to change it to MP3, it says you can't do that either.

Are there songs from iTunes that can never be copied? I'll try the Edit/Preferences/advanced/burning thing tonight, but it just seems odd that these songs appear to come down from iTunes "locked".

Oh, just to be clear... we're not trying to copy the files to CD as a backup or anything. She wants to make a CD of one her faviorite playlists that she can pop into the CD player in the car. Just a plain old regular audio/music CD.

Thanks DaftUnion. That did the trick! It was set for MP3 CD.
So, now the question is.....
What's the difference? Will all CD players play the Audio as well as the MP3 CDs?

All CD players will play the *audio* CDs. Most CD players will not play the MP3 CDs -- MP3 CDs hold the music in the compressed format so that you can fit ~100-150 songs on a disc instead of 15-20. CD players that specifically state that they play MP3 CDs will play them, but that's it.
