Can't receive picture messages?

I'm not sure if I can't receive them or not. Can iPhones receive picture messages from other phones/carriers? A friend says they sent me a message with a picture, but I haven't received anything.

you should receive a text message from "viewmymessages.com"

they give you a user id and password and you can go online to view the picture message / video

The iPhone doesn't (currently) do picture messaging.
