I have been searching the internet for this problem but wasnt able to find any solution.

I have an US iTunes account since a long time, which I created with iTunes Gift Cards. I have been using this to buy music from the US iTunes Store. Now I bought myself an Apple TV along with a 50$ Giftcard in Las Vegas. I went back home to germany just to find out that I can't rent movies at all. Apple TV has my US iTunes account (double checked that). It is also set to USA and English. When I try to rent a movie I get the message that I need to put in my payment information. Since I don't have a US credit card I can't put anything in there of course. But I do have 100$ on my account, but it still wants the credit card info. I can still buy music from the us store with this account though which I find quite interesting.

Did Apple change anything lately? I really thought you could still rent movies with AppleTV as long as you had an US iTunes account.

a reboot of apple TV fixed that strange problem!

a couple of things

I am doing a similar thing but UK, US and Australia. Everything works fine. What you might have to do is update your balance on your account. This means clicking on your display balance in iTunes on your computer entering your password. This should make your balance update.

Have you just updated to the latest version of iTunes? A lot of people had problems after the update. Myself included. I found a work around by using hotshield on my MAC to make iTunes unaware of where I was and my balance came back. I stopped hotshield and everything went back to normal.

Let us know how you get on.
