I have a late mini 2006 2gb ram 1.66ghz. I lost the original discs that came with my mini so no where to run hardware test. I ordered new ones from apple but instead of grey there were white label and black text. One was silver bottom and #2 disk was purple bottom. No big deal. As long as it works. But it doesn't. I called again and they are sending replacement disks again for free. But in the mean time maybe something I'm doing wrong. My mac mini internal matshitacd-rw c- 8124 no longer works. Keeps spitting out cds. But even with external only #1 boots and not disck #2. Even our powermac g5 internal cd works but only #1 shows on boot when holding down option. And #2 does nothing. Which is fine but according to apple hardware test is on # 2 cd and not #1. And holding down d key does nothing.

Never mind I figured it out. Seems it is on disc 1 and not 2. And you can't hold down the d key after option on boot. It has to be started from the begining and then d key. So startup disk in control panel then select the cd and then say restart from startup disk. Then hold d key before it restarts. That works. Holding the option key and then selcting the cd doesn't work. It has to be booting from the start. Rick Dykstra said so on apple discussions apples official forums in another thread.. And that worked. So thanks.
