Can't see all content from iMac on TV!

I followed the instructions of a bunch of previous threads and purchased a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter plus a 10' DVI to HDMI cable to watch content from my Intel Core 2 Duo iMac on my HD TV. Everything is connected and I can see the background of my monitor on my TV screen crystal clear but no content. No icons, no cursor, no windows, nothing.

Do I need to make some settings changes?

Go to your display preferences pane and check the arrangement tab to see if you have it set to extend the desktop rather than mirroring (which is what I assume you want). Toggle the selection and see what happens.
